Wiscasset Middle High School has an opening for Principal beginning July 1, 2024

Wiscasset Middle High School is seeking an experienced and transformative Principal to join our team beginning July 1, 2024. The ideal candidate will have:


  • Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or Administration

  • Valid Maine Building Administrator certification

  • Evidence of successful teaching, administrative, and supervisory experience

  • Knowledge and expertise in instructional best practices, curriculum development, and experiential learning

  • Ability to mentor and inspire a dedicated team of educators

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to work as part of a collaborative administrative team


Wiscasset Middle High School is part of the Wiscasset School Department; it serves approximately 250 students in grades 6 through 12. Wiscasset is located on the Sheepscot river and boasts a historic town center, a working and recreational waterfront, the Wiscasset Town Woods, and several nonprofit educational institutions that partner with the Wiscasset School Department to provide high quality educational opportunities for students.

Assistant Coaches for MS & HS Track Teams

Wiscasset Middle High School is seeking energetic assistant coaches for its Middle School and High School Track Teams.

These coaches should possess knowledge of all throwing and running events, have successful coaching experience, be versatile, and have a strong understanding of the healthy development of middle or high school age athletes.

 In addition to coaching, responsibilities of these positions will include:

  • setting up practice times

  • setting up use of track times for schools who would like to practice on our track

  • communicating with Officials 

  • helping to recruit students to participate

  • working closely with MS and HS Head Track coaches

  • asking for volunteers to be at meets to time and measure

  • driving a 15 passenger van to away meets

Education Life Skills/Behavior team. Must have ME Department of Education Educational Technician endorsement. Experience at the primary level preferred.

Special Education Teacher Middle Level Resource Room  - Wiscasset Middle High School

At  Wiscasset Schools, we pride ourselves on being a small school environment with the ability to focus on individual student growth. We are currently looking for a Special Education Teacher who truly enjoys working with children, works best as part of a collaborative team, and appreciates a small, supportive school environment.

Job Description: Provide instruction and support for a caseload of middle school students.  Develop IEPs and complete required special education paperwork that is in compliance with state and federal laws.  Supervise education technicians.  Collaborate with service providers, teachers, parents, administrators.  Facilitate IEP meetings.  

We are a student centered school, and as such, we have included an additional job description written by some of our middle level students.  This is what they are looking for in a teacher:

Anticipated Long Term High School Math Substitute

 Wiscasset Middle High School (WMHS) is seeking a Long Term Math Substitute Teacher for the remainder of the 23-24 school year, beginning at the end of March. The appropriate candidate will have:

  1. Maine Department of Education certification as teacher and other legal credentials.

 

  1. Holds degree(s) and/or appropriate certifications required in areas to be taught.

 

REPORTS TO:  Building principal

 JOB GOAL:  The Math teacher’s job is to direct, facilitate, and/or enhance student learning consistent with the district curriculum utilizing appropriate instructional material, strategies and technology in order to ensure that students become successful individuals and citizens.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Provides positive leadership and instruction to create learning opportunities that provide students with information and knowledge essential to mastery of WMHS standards for Algebra 1, Geometry, and PreCalculus.

  1. Knows the subject to be taught and knows how to teach the subject to students.

  2. Adapts curriculum and/or instruction to provide additional opportunities for individuals or small groups as necessary

  3. Employs technology, supplemental materials, and differentiated instruction that assists students in meeting standards

  4. Seeks assistance/guidance from district administrators/specialists to address needs of students challenged by required material or standards

  5. Establishes classroom behavior expectations and standards of conduct that reflect school operating procedures and board policy

  6. Maintains an orderly, respectful classroom environment conducive to learning while recognizing and supporting individual differences

  7. Practices oversight of students, school, and activities to ensure school safety and security for all

  8. Participates in faculty dialogue regarding instruction and learning and participates in student activities

  9. Provides accurate information to students, parents, supervisors in a timely manner

  10. Represents the school and district in a supportive and professional manner always observant of school and district policy

  11. Prepares and utilizes multiple assessment strategies to record students’ mastery of content and standards

  12. Records achievement and assessment results and provides student feedback in a timely fashion

Job Summary:  

The individuals will:  provide secretarial/administrative support to the principal and other staff; communicate information to learners, parents, staff, and/or other schools, comply with financial, legal and administrative requirements; and support the broad array of services provided to learners, parents, instructional and support employees. This position requires adherence to confidentiality.  Assigned duties, public contact, and multiple task management are integral to the position.  The right person will familiarize themselves with school policies and procedures and is expected to exercise a high degree of initiative and independent judgment in problem solving.
