This morning at approximately 8:35 a WMHS staff member had a medical emergency. We put the WMHS into Shelter in Place status, which is when students and staff stay in their classrooms until notified. Wiscasset EMS arrived quickly and treated the staff member. When the ambulance left the property, we lifted the Shelter in Place, at approximately 8:50. All students and staff are safe. Thank you, everyone, for doing an awesome job staying calm, cool, and collected.

Please welcome Sgt. Perry Hatch back to the Wiscasset School Department in the position of School Resource Officer! Many of you will remember Sgt. Hatch as Wiscasset's first SRO back in 2014-15. Officer Barnes sends the following heart-felt message to the Wiscasset Schools Community: "I am writing with a heavy heart to inform you that I have decided to step down as the School Resource Officer. I have another opportunity within the Police Department that I am pursuing. Much thought and debate went into this decision and I hope you all know it was not an easy choice for me. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and supported everything we accomplished in the district. Thank you for entrusting me with the wellbeing of your families. I have built relationships both on campus and within the community that will stay with me for a lifetime. Rest assured I am not going far. I will still be working in Wiscasset and available to any and all of you. You may even see me make appearances in the school to say hello from time to time. I still believe we are stronger together and will continue to support anything any of you may need as we help our young people build their futures. Best wishes." ---Officer Jonathan Barnes

READ FOR WILLOW Students and staff at WES/WMHS will hold a read-a-thon fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 16 to support fifth grader, Willow Orr, who is experiencing serious medical challenges which require intensive medical treatment and travel. WES/WMHS students are invited to gather donations for 45 minutes of reading across the schools. More detailed information will be sent home with each child. Heard daily through WES are the phrases, "Be aware and show you care," and, "We take care of each other at WES". This fundraiser is giving students real life opportunities to demonstrate these skills. On this special day, we will hold a school-wide assembly, where our WES Chorus will share songs of love, kindness and friendship. Students and staff are invited to wear purple in honor of Willow on that day. Later on that same day, all staff and students will read for 30-40 minutes as part of this community wide initiative. The funds raised will help the family with travel costs and other related medical expenses.
