Wiscasset Boys Varsity Soccer Victorious in Regional Quarterfinals Match
Wiscasset Boys Varsity defeated Carrabec/Madison in the Regional Quarterfinals 2-1 in Overtime. Wiscasset beat the 3rd seed in the South Conference Tournament in a significant, historic victory and will face 2nd seed Telstar in the Regional Semifinals.
Teagan Marr scored off a corner kick that set the tempo for most of the game, 10 minutes remaining in the first half. With only 2 minutes remaining in the game, Carrabec/Madison awarded a penalty kick and scored on a controversial call by the referee.
The game headed into a ten-minute overtime. Evan Puterbaugh, the left back, passed it to Julien King near the midfield, split the defenders with speed, and buried the shot in the left corner to win in sudden death.
This is a major victory for the Wiscasset Boys Varsity Soccer Program, with the ability to play against elite soccer programs and show great composure and intensity. The team is on a four-game win streak and improves to 6-6-3. The team has shown dramatic improvement, and I am really happy for the seniors feeling a deep sense of school pride and winning after years of hard work on the pitch.
