WISCASSET SCHOOLS SPRING GATHERING OF THE ARTS
May 18, 2026 (Wiscasset, ME) –
The Visual and Performing Arts Department of Wiscasset Schools presented the Spring Gathering of the
Arts on Monday, May 18th, at Wiscasset Middle High School.
Attendees were first invited to enjoy the display of artwork created by students in grades 4-12. A concert
followed, featuring performances by the Wiscasset Middle High School Concert Band, the Wiscasset
Middle High School Chorus, and the Wiscasset Elementary School Chorus.
The band opened their performance featuring the beginning fifth grade students who played four pieces to
demonstrate their new skills. Following that, the WMHS Band played “The Star Spangled Banner,” along
with three other pieces, “Fire Dance,” “Rainforest,” and “Chant and Celebration.” They concluded with
an impressive performance of “Ceremonium,” which demonstrated the ensemble’s skill of playing
countermelodies while observing phrasing and articulation.
The choral portion of the concert began with the WMHS Chorus performing “Sesere Eeya,” a folk song
from Australia. This was followed by a Liberian folk song, “Kokoleoko,” which featured soloists Everett
Oakes and Harper Atwood; and a Zambian song, “Bonse Aba.” The WMHS chorus concluded their
portion of the concert with John Denver’s “Country Roads,” which proved to be an audience favorite as
some could be heard joining in on the refrain!
The Wiscasset Elementary Chorus then performed three pieces that they recently performed at an
outreach concert for the residents of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor, where they prepared songs
from the 50s, 60s and 70s. They started with “California Dreamin’,” followed by “The Witch Doctor,”
and “Jailhouse Rock.” Next, they performed three pieces in recognition of America’s 250th birthday this
year. Those were, “God Bless America,”(featuring soloists Wren Fairfield and Brooklynn Jusseaume)
“Colonel Bogey’s Grand Old Flag,”(featuring Colonel Bogey’s March played meticulously on kazoos!)
and “My Shot” from Hamilton (featuring rap solos by Kagome Ordung, Bryce Frye, Abby Helstrom and
Grayson Mullins). .
Congratulations to all the Wiscasset student artists and musicians for all of your hard work on this event!
Thank you to the Wiscasset community for your continued support of the arts!
