Bright Beginning Starts Here at WES
Step inside the pre-kindergarten classroom at Wiscasset Elementary School, and you’ll immediately feel it — the hum of curiosity, the comfort of belonging, and the joy of learning just beginning to bloom.
Natalie carefully builds winding train tracks on the rug while Ellie snuggles a favorite bear nearby. Kaiden is already looking toward the door, eager for his turn on the swings outside. Annikiah brings stories to life at the puppet theater, and Katherine happily explores the sensory room, proudly sharing stories about her three-year-old sister Everly — her very best friend. Willow and Lillyanne often play side by side, with Lillyanne laughing hardest when she’s with Grayson, “because he’s a little bit funny.” And Raegan, now five, looks forward to group time, especially when she gets to sit near Willow.
These everyday moments are the heartbeat of Wiscasset Elementary School’s expanded Pre-K program, where big things are happening for our littlest learners.
Located at 83 Federal Street in Wiscasset, Maine, Wiscasset Elementary serves approximately 180 students in grades Pre-K through 5 in a warm, close-knit school community. Our expanded pre-kindergarten program is thoughtfully designed to nurture confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning — right from the very start.
Led by a compassionate and experienced team — Samantha Crawford, Kim Watson, Kaylee Kittell, Joanne Jones, Dawn Greenleaf, and Debbie Gagnon — our Pre-K classroom is a place where children feel safe, known, and celebrated. With an exceptional 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio, every child receives individualized attention and meaningful support during these important early years.
Beginning in September 2025, Wiscasset Elementary has also provided specialized services for Pre-K students with disabilities on-site, under Maine’s new Public Law 643. Families can rest easy knowing that speech therapy, developmental services, and specialized support are available right in their neighborhood school — no long waitlists, no traveling to outside programs, just seamless care where children already feel at home.
Our newly renovated Pre-K classroom on the ground floor features bright, child-centered spaces, new equipment, and easy access to the cafeteria and playground. Every detail has been designed to encourage exploration, friendship, and joyful discovery — every single day.
At Wiscasset Elementary, this expanded Pre-K program is more than a new offering. It’s a promise — a commitment to inclusion, opportunity, and strong beginnings for every child.
