WISCASSET CHORUS AND BAND PERFORM AT TOWN CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
December 6, 2025 (Wiscasset, ME) –
On Saturday, December 6th, Wiscasset 4th-12th grade choral students and members of the WMHS Concert Band provided the music for the Annual Wiscasset Christmas Tree Lighting. The event took place on the town common and the steps of the Wiscasset First Congregational church at 4:00pm. Dr. Jeffrey Grosser served as the Master of Ceremonies.
After brief introductions the chorus opened the program with the song, “Here We Come A-Caroling” While students were singing, Santa arrived on a firetruck. Students then sang “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.” Santa greeted the children and asked to hear more of their music. Students gladly sang a few more pieces, including “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Jingle Bell Jazz” and “A Hot Cup of Cocoa.”
Despite the cold weather, which can make playing instruments more challenging, members of the WMHS Concert Band joyfully played “Jingle Bells,” “The Dreydl Song,” “Up on the Housetop” and “Jolly Old St. Nicholas.”
Just before the countdown to light the Christmas tree, the chorus sang “O Christmas Tree” and then after the tree lighting, they sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” to conclude the program. After the performance, everyone was invited to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies provided by the Wiscasset Recreation Department.
Please join us for our next events: On Monday, December 15th, the Winter Gathering of the Arts will be held at Wiscasset Middle High School. There will be an art exhibit walk beginning at 5:00pm, followed by performances by the 4th-12th grade chorus and the WMHS band at 6:00pm. The art exhibit will also be open after the concert.
On Friday, December 19th at 10:00am, WES will have their annual All-School Holiday Sing-Along in the gymnasium. Families are welcome to attend! The WES Chorus will perform and then lead the rest of the students sharing music and movement to many
holiday favorites including “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and many more!
