A Season of Magic at WMHS
The gymnasium lights dimmed, and a hush fell over the packed house at Wiscasset Middle High School. After weeks of rehearsals, the moment had finally arrived.
From the first haunting notes of the opening music, it was clear this production of "A Christmas Carol" would be something special. The musicians, tucked just offstage, set the tone with melodies that transported the audience straight to Victorian London.
Co-producers Tim Ryan and Emily Sue Barker had assembled a remarkable team. Students transformed into miserly Scrooge, cheerful Fezziwig, and the hopeful Cratchit family, while staff members joined them onstage, blurring the line between teacher and performer in the best possible way.
Behind the scenes, the student crew worked their own kind of magic. Lighting operators and the sound team ensured every whispered warning from Marley's ghost reached the back row.
When Tiny Tim delivered his famous blessing, more than a few audience members reached for tissues. And when Scrooge awoke on Christmas morning, reborn with joy and generosity, the applause was thunderous.
The true spirit of the season had come alive on that stage, carried by students, staff, and neighbors working together to tell a story that never grows old.
