“Maine’s First Woman Army General Shares Leadership Insights to Seniors"

General Diane L. Dunn the 41st Adjutant General of the Maine National Guard and Commissioner of the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management provided leadership insights to WMHS students at Camp Chamberlain, Augusta.

Mariaman Khomenko, a WMHS student said, “I really liked the fact that we were able to meet with General Dunn and just in general participate in the political life of Maine. I feel like it's important that young people participate in the political life of a country and most importantly speak with one of its leaders and army generals.  By visiting the National Guard Headquarters building, I understood a little bit more about American culture and their devotion to Soldiers and military officers.“

General Dunn served in key leadership roles across the Maine Army National Guard. She deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 as Commander of the 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and, in 2014, became the first woman to command a brigade in Maine National Guard history. She later served as Chief of Staff and Assistant Adjutant General, and was selected as Deputy Commanding General for U.S. Army North at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
