WES Concert

MAY 12, 2024 (Wiscasset, ME) –

On May 8th, Wiscasset Elementary School presented an evening of art and music for students,

families and the community.

The Art Show featured work from all students in grades K-5. The hallways bristled with

excitement for the many amazing works from all of our students. Art teacher, Ms. Proffetty

displayed hundreds of pieces of student work using many different media. A highlight was the

hall that featured art representing the timeline of man.

The music concert took place that same evening with the kindergarten, first, second and third

grade students presenting a concert themed “Smile!” Students were excited to perform on the

school stage for their families and friends.

Kindergarten and first grade students opened the show with several songs including “I Love to

Smile,” “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” “Boom Boom, Ain’t it Great to Be Crazy?” and “I

Like to Have Fun” Two other favorites were movement routines. One was set to Johann

Strauss II’s “Pizzicato Polka,” and the other was “Galop,” from Kabalevsky’s The Comedians

where students performed a colorful scarf routine while third graders played along on the Orff

instruments.

Following that the second and third graders presented their portion of the concert. Their songs

included “Smile,” “Just For Fun,” “S-M-I-L-E,” “Smile, Smile, Smile” and the ever popular,

“Happy.” They also included a movement routine to Offenbach’s “Can Can” that featured

students moving smiley face plates in unison to the music.

The finale was presented by all students singing and dancing to “Miles of Smiles.”

Students worked very hard to memorize all the music and movement for this show and the

audience congratulated them on their successful performance with rousing applause!

On May 29th, the WES fourth and fifth grade chorus, beginner band as well as the WMHS

chorus and band will perform their concert for the community at Wiscasset Middle High School

at 6:00pm.

Thank you to our Wiscasset community for continuing to support music in our schools as it

remains a vital part of each and every child’s education.
