"WMHS Seniors Learn About County Government and Corrections"

Colonel James Bailey, the Correctional Administrator for the Two Bridges Regional Jail (TBRJ), Wiscasset provided a tour for the WMHS Principles of Democracy (POD) Course. The Seniors learned about the role of county government, budgetary model and the judiciary system.

Olivia Warlick a WMHS Senior and future SMCC Law Enforcement student said, “Touring the jail was eye-opening, highlighting a separate yet functioning civilization within our society. As someone entering law enforcement soon, it's crucial to understand the people there, the decisions that led to their incarceration, and the lessons they're learning during their time.”

Lincoln County and Sagadahoc County share resources to support this regional jail in Maine. The general functions of a jail are to hold individuals awaiting trial or sentencing, and to house those serving short prison sentences, as well as to house individuals for other reasons like for court appearances or transfer to other facilities. Other regional high schools take advantage of the academic opportunity to tour TBRJ.

Emmitt Loupe, a WMHS Senior shared, “Thank you Two Bridges Jail staff members for the tour. I thought the corrections programs were very interesting.”
