Mariamna Khomenko, an exchange student from Milan, Italy instructed the linguistic nuances between Ukrainian and Russian Cyrillic alphabet to fellow Wiscasset High School students. Ukrainian is an East Slavic language written using a Cyrillic alphabet, closely related to Russian and Belarusian, but with distinct vocabulary and grammatical features.
Mariamna shared her wonderful experiences while attending Wiscasset Middle High School, “My favorite experience was going skiing with my host sister. I really enjoy the nature here and I would love to see what spring looks like. One thing I'm looking forward to doing is going to the beach and swimming in the ocean. I'm really thankful for my Wiscasset friends and my host family.”
Living in Varese, Italy, she attends "Liceo Linguistico". The secondary school focused on language and culture, offering in-depth study of three foreign languages and cultures, preparing students for university. She is fluent in six languages, quickly mastering English in AP History and Principles of Democracy class.
The city of Varese is in northern Italy near the border of Switzerland, nestled in the Alps and Lake Varese in the most picturesque and scenic area in Europe.
