Ismael Martinez serves our Country

Ismael Martinez a senior at WMHS enlists as a Mountain Infantry Soldier with the Maine Army National Guard, 3-172ndInfantry Regiment (Mountain).

Ismael Martinez shared, “I am joining for multiple reasons. One of which being that my Dad was in the Army and the Army National Guard. Another reason is a sense of obligation to help the country and others when needed and to earn some form of Accomplishment within myself from these experiences as well.”

Mountain infantry are military forces that are trained to operate in mountainous regions. They are often equipped with specialized tools and technology, trained in harsh weather conditions, deep fjords, and steep mountains and use innovative technology and multi-level training to gain an advantage over their enemies.

Martinez discussed, “I will be going to Infantry OSUT (One Station Unit Training) in August. This will include Basic Training and Infantry School (11B). The duration of this training will be about 23 weeks. I will return home, an infantry trained Soldier, qualified to wear the U.S. Army Infantry, Blue Shoulder Cord.”

The 3-172nd Infantry Regiment completed combat deployments in Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan and recently completed KFOR29 Operation Spartan Shield in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.
