spanish class

With my World Languages Class we made "ofrendas" for the Day of the Dead. This is a tradition that originates in Mexico. Here are some pictures of the student's work. The day of the dead is a holiday that celebrates and honors our ancestors and loved ones. The ofrendas are made to honor deceased loved ones by creating an altar that has their picture, food and other things that they liked and then some traditional elements like sugar skulls, marigolds and papel picado. We created "mini ofrendas" in different types of boxes and the students made, printed or drew the different elements that go on the ofrenda. It was a wonderful way to get to know more about this holiday and to reflect on how we remember and honor our loved ones who are no longer with us.
