Ecology Club Meets Andy Goldsworthy
Submitted by: Becky Hallowell
The Ecology Club at Wiscasset Elementary School took advantage of
the beautiful sunny weather on October 21 to create artwork in the
style of Andy Goldsworthy. After viewing a variety of slides displaying
Goldworthy’s art that uses natural objects as a medium, the students
gleefully took buckets outside to collect objects to create their own art.
Students gathered leaves, acorns, flowers, twigs, and rocks. Then
they settled into a carefully selected space to create pieces of art
making use of colorful patterns. Once the children were satisfied with
the art they created, they did a gallery walk where each artist
explained their process. Everyone left inspired to find the potential in
all natural objects.
