In K-2 guidance, primary students are expanding their bank of calming strategies to practice when encountering big emotions such as anger, worry or sadness. Some favorite calming strategies include drawing, hugging a stuffy, talking to an adult, petting a pet and snuggling with a blanket. Pictured below:
Students are also learning to comprehend Big Problem/ Little Problem scenarios to determine whether a problem is:
1. something they can solve by themselves (i.e., losing their pencil.)
2 . something where they need adult help ( i.e., missing the bus).
3. only adults can solve (i.e., a neighborhood fire)
