WMHS Trails Project, Carpentry Instructor

Wiscasset Middle High School received a grant through the Maine Outdoor Leadership Initiative to improve the trails behind WMHS and the Wiscasset Community Center.  In order for the goals of this Trails Project to be reached, WMHS is seeking a Carpentry Instructor.  This person will work alongside the Trails Project Coordinator to determine what types and how many bridges and benches need to be built in order for teachers and students to access the trails for place-based learning.  The Carpentry Instructor will provide direction and guidance to high school-aged students who will do the designing and building of the bridges and benches. 

The work of the Carpentry Instructor will begin in the spring of 2024, and continue throughout the summer of 2024, with an end date of August 31, 2024.

Qualifications and skills needed for this position:

  • Maine DOE CHRC certification as you will be working with students

  • Well organized

  • Clear and Effective Communicator, in person and electronically

  • Be committed to working +/-10 hours/week from May/June to August 30, 2024

  • Knowledge of basic carpentry and structures needed for hiking trails

  • Able to drive a 15 passenger van, if needed

  • Have experience working with high school-aged students

BAND LEADER AND MUSIC INSTRUCTOR

Wiscasset School Department is seeking a Band Leader and Music Instructor to help grow our music program at the middle and high school level and band at the upper elementary level. This is an opportunity for a dynamic teacher to build a band program in a unique situation where funding and access to instruments are readily available and school administration believes deeply in the power and importance of music education. Our music department has a large endowment which we can access annually to purchase instruments or anything else related to music. We have an experienced Choral Leader and Music Instructor at the Elementary school who partners with the Middle and High School Music Teacher for performances and other collaborations. Our students are seeing a renewed interest in music at the secondary level after COVID. We currently have approximately 16 members in the elementary school band, 32 in the middle school band, and 7 in the high school band, with more signing up next year. Grade 2 classroom teacher

The successful candidate will be a student-centered, collaborative teacher who is passionate about teaching and learning.  Strong communication skills, knowledge of standards-based learning, and effective and appropriate classroom management skills required. School Nurse - RN

Wiscasset School Department has an opening for an RN.  Experience in dealing with a wide range of medical conditions and triage. Applicants should be familiar with electronic record keeping for all students. Applicants should be knowledgeable about State and MDOE Requirements/ Guidelines.  School nurse experience preferred, but recent graduates will be considered.

Van Driver 

Part-time (20 hours per week)  to transport students as needed- Must have Maine DOE CHRC certification and ME drivers license - position will remain open until suitable candidate is found.  The successful candidate will have an excellent driving record, ability to drive in adverse weather conditions and the ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students and parents.

WMHS Trails Project Coordinator

Wiscasset Middle High School received a grant through the Maine Outdoor Leadership Initiative to improve the trails behind WMHS and the Wiscasset Community Center.  In order for the goals of this Trails Project to be reached, WMHS is seeking a Coordinator who will be a critical asset to this project as they will have the responsibility of overseeing a majority of the work that will need to be completed on the trails, including carpentry projects. They will need to be in communication with the WMHS Building Administrator, members of the Wiscasset Trails Committee, the Director of the Wiscasset Community Center, the Programs Director at Chewonki, and carpentry contractors. This communication will need to be managed clearly and effectively in order to coordinate the students who will be doing the trail maintenance and carpentry projects, the Trails Committee volunteers, and the contractors. Student transportation will also be a responsibility of this person.

The work of the Coordinator will begin on April 15.

Qualifications and skills needed for this position:

  • Maine DOE CHRC certification (fingerprints/background check) as you will be working with students

  • Well organized with timelines, schedules, timesheets, and information dissemination 

  • Clear and Effective Communicator, in person and electronically

  • Be committed to working 10 hours/week from April 15 to August 30, 2024, which will include administrative tasks as well as "on site" duties

  • Knowledge of hiking trails

  • Able to drive a 15 passenger van, if needed

Anticipated High School Math Teacher for the 24-25 School Year

 

Wiscasset Middle High School (WMHS) is seeking a High School Math Teacher for the 24-25 school year. The appropriate candidate will have:

 

  1. Maine Department of Education certification as teacher and other legal credentials.

 

  1. Holds degree(s) and/or appropriate certifications required in areas to be taught.

 

REPORTS TO:  Building principal

 

JOB GOAL:  The Math teacher’s job is to direct, facilitate, and/or enhance student learning consistent with the district curriculum utilizing appropriate instructional material, strategies and technology in order to ensure that students become successful individuals and citizens.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Provides positive leadership and instruction to create learning opportunities that provide students with information and knowledge essential to mastery of WMHS standards for Algebra 1, Geometry, and PreCalculus.

  2. Knows the subject to be taught and knows how to teach the subject to students.

  3. Adapts curriculum and/or instruction to provide additional opportunities for individuals or small groups as necessary

  4. Employs technology, supplemental materials, and differentiated instruction that assists students in meeting standards

  5. Seeks assistance/guidance from district administrators/specialists to address needs of students challenged by required material or standards

  6. Establishes classroom behavior expectations and standards of conduct that reflect school operating procedures and board policy

  7. Maintains an orderly, respectful classroom environment conducive to learning while recognizing and supporting individual differences

  8. Practices oversight of students, school, and activities to ensure school safety and security for all

  9. Participates in faculty dialogue regarding instruction and learning and participates in student activities

  10. Provides accurate information to students, parents, supervisors in a timely manner

  11. Represents the school and district in a supportive and professional manner always observant of school and district policy

  12. Prepares and utilizes multiple assessment strategies to record students’ mastery of content and standards

  13. Records achievement and assessment results and provides student feedback in a timely fashion

Special Education Teacher Middle Level Resource Room  - Wiscasset Middle High School
