On Wednesday January 16th at 8:15am, all Wiscasset choral students (grades 4-12) will participate in a workshop provided by the University of Maine's premier all-male a cappella vocal group, The Maine Steiners. Following that, at 9:20am, all 4th-12th grade students will enjoy a performance by the group held at Wiscasset Middle High School.
Founded in 1958, The Maine Steiners is the oldest a cappella group on campus. As a completely student-run and directed organization, the vocal group consists of about 7-14 men that are auditioned from the much larger campus choir, University Singers. As a touring group, The Maine Steiners act as crusaders for young male singers everywhere. Their goal is to share a love of music and a passion for singing in hopes of inspiring young individuals to pursue a life-long commitment to musical learning and enjoyment.
Over the course of the past 53 years, The Maine Steiners have released multiple albums, participated in many national and international competitions, traveled overseas, and earned the acclaim of both critics and fans. Over the duration of the group’s long and fruitful existence, they have accrued and perfected a vast and diverse repertoire.
Wiscasset Music Department and administration are thrilled to offer this opportunity for our students. They are sure to be inspired by this special workshop and performance.
