Superintendent of Schools


The Wiscasset School Committee is seeking a Superintendent of Schools to lead The Wiscasset School Department forward. Wiscasset is a small rural town nestled in mid-coast Maine along the Sheepscot River with a year round population of just under 4,000 residents.  The School Department is comprised of two schools, Wiscasset Elementary and Wiscasset Middle High School, which serve a combined population of 520 students in grades preK -12.

The School Committee seeks a leader who has demonstrated a strong and clear vision and focus in positively supporting a growing and developing school department. In addition, the successful candidate will have significant experience in developing and managing school budgets, personnel management, human relations, and strong familiarity with Maine school law.  The Committee is also looking for applicants who have shown strong instructional leadership in collaboration with an administrative team.

The Wiscasset School Department is seeking a Director of Special Services to be a part of a dynamic administrative team.  The Department is searching for a collaborative Director who has strengths in instructional leadership, effective time management skills, superior interpersonal skills and the ability to advocate for students and families.  The ideal candidate will have some previous experience in administration and will be eligible for a 035 and/or 030 endorsement from the Maine DOE, with CRHC approval. Professional responsibilities will include the management of a $2.23 million local budget, Local Entitlement funds, 504 plans district-wide; and, student IEPs.  In addition, the Director will supervise special educators, service providers and educational technicians.


Anticipated Start Date:  July 1, 2018

Assistant Principal/Athletic Director:  Anticipated position

The school department is seeking a leader to join the administrative team in the capacity of full-time Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Wiscasset Middle High School (grades 6-12). The leader would work to promote and reinforce the positive culture of the school while also helping to develop the instructional capacity of the staff, specifically in the area of classroom management and development of positive relationships with students.  The AP/AD would be expected to address student behaviors, collaborate with parents, social workers, teachers, guidance and the building principal, and coach staff as appropriate. This would occur while addressing student behavior and the follow-up required when communicating with families.

We are seeking a candidate with the necessary skills to sustain a strong athletic department with a small student population. The athletic director will develop and manage a responsible athletic budget, work collaboratively within the Mountain Valley Conference, community and WSD, demonstrate exceptional communication skills, make sound judgement calls regarding safety, eligibility and programming, and involve stakeholders in decisions.

Wiscasset School Department is currently seeking substitutes for the following areas:

Bus and van drivers to drive regular routes, sports trips and some field trips, CDL with endorsements required

Custodial - prior cleaning experience preferred, but will train. Must be able to provide own transportation, and be able to work independently or as a group in a school setting.

Kitchen Staff - prior experience preferred, but will train the right people.

 Wiscasset School Department has the following position available beginning the 2018-2019 school year:

Resource Room Teacher (K-5): 

Wiscasset School Department is seeking a knowledgeable and flexible special educator to join its team of exceptional educators for the 2018-2019 school year.  This is a very exciting opportunity to work in a small, supportive environment and to be part of changing students’ lives. The position will be a hybrid position between a typical resource room setting and a more restrictive educational setting.  Students on the caseload demonstrate a wide variety of academic and functional needs that must be addressed in ways that foster student development and growth. A successful candidate will be able to closely collaborate with the educational team to manage student behaviors, implement IEPs, support students in the regular and special education settings in 1:1 or small group scenarios, and support students’ unique needs as appropriate.  Working knowledge of specialized reading and math programs is a plus. A goal of lifelong learning is required. Safety Care Training, or a willingness to become Safety Care trained is needed for this position. Maine DOE 282 or 286 certification and CHRC requires. The following coaching positions are available for the 2018-2019 school year:

Middle School Girls Soccer Coach:  Wiscasset Middle High School is looking for an enthusiastic coach to work with our girls soccer players.  The range of experience in our student-athletes will be vast; some will have competed before and some may have little idea about the fundamentals of soccer.  The successful candidate will meet student-athletes where they are and help them be successful while balancing fun and fundamentals.  ME Department of Education CHRC required.  Position will remain open until suitable candidate is found.

Varsity Girls Basketball Coach:  Wiscasset Middle High School is seeking a dynamic, committed varsity basketball coach who will emphasize character, sportsmanship, and responsibility in addition to helping student-athletes develop basketball skills.  The successful candidate will possess a positive, collaborative approach to coaching athletics and will see the court as an extension of the classroom.  ME Department of Education CHRC required.  Application deadline is May 5, 2018.

Middle/High school Spanish teacher:
 
WMHS is seeking a Spanish teacher to teach grades 7-12. The ideal candidate will hold appropriate State of Maine certification, have experience with proficiency-based education and use of learning targets and summative assessments to evaluate knowledge of standards. The team is looking for a collaborative team player to build a strong world language program with opportunities for interdisciplinary projects, innovative use of technology, project-based learning and the ability to continue to shape the middle and high school Spanish curriculum. 

High School Math Teacher
The Wiscasset Middle High School is seeking a high school math teacher to join our committed team. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching geometry and algebra in a standards-based model of education.  The team is looking for a collaborative team player to build a comprehensive math program and continue to develop our standards-based math curriculum.
 
The successful candidate will have Maine certification with math endorsement for grades 7-12 (300s).
